Cystic acne is probably the worst kind of acne you can get, not that any kind of acne is good! It forms deep within your skin, then slowly rears its ugly head. You can see it breaking the surface of your skin in the form of a hard, red and painful bump. Then it comes out further and may get filled with pus. It actually physically hurts from the minute it starts forming. You can feel it while you talk, laugh or eat. If that was not bad enough it looks awful. So how do we deal with cystic acne? Here are 7 ways that will help you heal faster.
1. No Touching
Touching your face frequently irritates it. And when you have cystic acne it is downright bad. It irritates your acne and your skin and spreads the infection. Want your acne to heal faster? Leave it alone. Your fingers have no magical powers that will heal acne. Leave your face alone and let your body take care of it.
2. Make Sure Your Pillowcase is Clean
Till your acne heals, make sure any surface that touches your face is clean. Imagine laying your face and sleeping 8 hours on a dirty pillowcase. If you cannot change it every day then place a clean towel on your pillowcase and change the towel every alternate day
3. No Makeup
I perfectly understand why you would want to cover up acne with makeup. Till your acne heals it would be a great for your acne if you stay away from any makeup. It’s not so much the makeup as the act of applying the makeup that will irritate your skin. And then, of course, getting the makeup off. If you’re worried about covering up remember that unless your makeup is really heavy and done by a professional makeup artist, it’s going to look awful. Instead of covering up take care of your skin and let it heal. Once it heals it will look amazing even without makeup.
4. No Harsh Skincare
The urge to fight cystic acne with strong products often backfires. However, let me tell you that this approach backfires and generally quite badly. There is no magical product is going to cure your acne overnight.
So no strong face washes, no strong ointments and definitely no scrubs. Your skin needs to be treated very, very gently at this point. By irritating it you are setting yourself up for more acne and possibly scars.
5. Use Gentle Treatments to Heal
Generally, I recommend leaving your skin alone to heal and do its own thing. However, you can gently apply organic honey to the affected parts to hasten the healing.
6. Take Care of Your Diet
Cystic acne is a big sign that the inflammation levels in your body are high. You can reduce this inflammation by not eating any inflammatory foods. The 2 big culprits here are sugar and dairy. Don’t think you can give up both? Give up sugar only. Include a lot of green leafy vegetables in your diet. Also anti-inflammatory spices such as ginger and turmeric.
7. Keep Yourself Hydrated
This means drinking lots of water, lemon water and green tea. Green tea and lemon water work to bring down the inflammation and reduce the redness in your skin.
